I feel very fortunate to be a member of the Holst Singers – and our most recent concert was no exception to this opinion. Particularly exciting for me was that we got to perform Frank Martin’s Mass for Double Choir – a piece which I discovered a few years ago as a member of the New Zealand Youth Choir. We never got to perform the piece in its entirety – it is difficult music – and music this good deserves a full performance.
Well, I got my chance with the Holst Singers. It is definitely a concert I won’t forget in a long time – we also performed Allegri’s ‘Miserere’, ‘The Reproaches’ by Sanders and ‘O Sacrum Convivium’ by Messiaen. I was so delighted also to have in the audience many good friends and, coincidentally, a few members of the same choir I got to know the piece with a few years ago!
