Thoughts on 100 Years

This weekend will be very special and very poignant as Australians and New Zealanders all over the world pause to remember those who fought at Gallipoli 100 years ago. In the research for my Gallipoli pieces, reading through many many different sources, it has really hit home the huge sacrifice that was made for both countries.

Recently I encountered someone’s opinion online that ANZAC Day is no more than a day that “glorifies war” – an opinion that I don’t share. For me, it is a day to remember those that were lost, and those left behind who struggled to cope. It may be utopian of me to say, but I keep hope that those parts of world still facing the horrors of war as part of their daily existence will find peace eventually.
